June 2020 Photo Contest Results

It’s officially summer and our June 2020 photo contest has come to an end! We had 9 entries in and more than five times as many votes as last month! This is the third contest we’ve run so far, and we’d like to take a second to thank everyone for your support and participation as we continue building out and fine-tuning our platforms.

Now on to the fun stuff…

June 2020 Photo Contest Winners

This month’s contest was another close one, with our first and second place winners receiving the same number of votes thanks to some last-minute ballots.

We ended up with a two-way tie for first and, per the Potography Photo Contest Rules, we appointed our judging committee to make the final decision.

As it turns out, the two winning photos came from the same contestant, who also happens to be our May winner!

Read on for more details…

Third Place

In third place, we have a great bud shot by our friend @the_chronickk. Featuring his classic and unmistakable style, @the_chronickk’s entry for June continues a 3-month winning streak!

He had a few copycats try to match his style in last month’s contest, but this image shows why @the_chronickk has a special talent for highlighting the best features of the buds he smokes.

Nick’s pictures are all shot from his iPhone and feature buds from his own personal head stash. If you want to know some of the best strains out at any given time, and you want to see more shots like this, be sure to follow @the_chronickk on Instagram!

The strain pictured is “Sherbacio,” and the gorgeous buds were cultivated by Alien Labs.

Second Place

TheDankOne420 returned in June for a first and second place sweep, and we must say we’re not surprised!

We’ve been following TheDankOne420 since back when he was known as StickyLens on IG (way before anyone knew us as Potography), so we’re honored to have him participating in our monthly contests and have absolutely loved every one of his entries so far.

This month was no different, starting with this shot of “Quarantine Kush.” The bud’s multiple shades of green pop in front of the colorful rainbow background, and we can’t wait to print this beautiful image on our fine art hemp paper.

This image was tied for first place by raw vote count, and as much as our judges loved the colors and the background, they ultimately decided this photo looked comfortable in second place.

*Friendly reminder: Any photo that doesn’t win first place can be re-entered each month for an unlimited number of months until it wins 2nd or 3rd place up to five times. After winning 2nd or 3rd five times, it becomes featured on our site forever as an “honorary winner.” See the complete Contest Rules for more details.

First Place

If TheDankOne420’s second place shot of the Quarantine Kush had your mouth watering, just take a look at his first-place winner!

This month’s first-place title goes to TheDankOne420’s shot “Quarantine Kush Trichomes.” This photo is a macro shot of the same strain pictured in the second-place winning photo, and at this level of magnification it almost looks like an entirely different plant!

We love this photo because it highlights the beauty of the plant just as much as it highlights the incredible talent of the artist who captured it.

Macro photography and cannabis buds are a match made in heaven. Add TheDankOne420 to the mix, and there’s no limit to what kind of beauty can be revealed.

We’ve been staring at this shot for hours and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Congratulations to TheDankOne420 for another well-deserved win!

Thank you!

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the contest by voting, submitting entries, both, or even just spreading the word. We are still in the early stages of building this community platform and the positive feedback is incredibly encouraging.

We’re hyped to see what Potography becomes as our community of cannabis-inspired artists continues to grow.

Thanks for being a part of it, and we hope to see you in our July contest!

long island railroad advertisement that inspired potography

The Birth of Potography – How a Silly Word Became a Community

The Beginning Potography started as an inside joke. I was riding the Long Island Rail Road one day when I noticed an ad poster with a missing letter.  I think it originally read “POHTOGRAPHY,” and someone ripped off the “H” in an attempt to correct the typo. Whatever happened, all I could see was the
